With the 2026 ATP Fantasy season intensifying, Dominic Thiem is gearing up to shake things up for the Internazionali BNL D’Italia, the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome.

The Austrian sensation has been keeping an eye on the ATP Tour’s #NextGenATP talent, and one player, in particular, has caught his attention. Thiem is captivated by Rafael Jodar’s swift ascent and is contemplating adding the Spaniard to his roster for the tournament taking place from May 6-17.

“The emerging players are incredibly thrilling,” Thiem remarked. “As of now, I’d lean towards Jodar due to his remarkable consistency. He claimed the ATP 250 title in Marrakech, then made it to the semi-finals in Barcelona and the quarter-finals in Madrid. I foresee him achieving some impressive results during the ongoing clay season.”

Thiem also highlighted the significant shift in conditions transitioning from the Madrid venue (Caja Magica) to Rome (Foro Italico). He noted that the slower courts in Rome, at a lower altitude than Madrid, can create challenges for players used to Madrid’s fast-paced environment.

“Adjusting from Madrid to Rome is quite complex,” Thiem explained. “Madrid has a high altitude and fast courts, whereas in Rome, it’s different; the pace is slower. Thus, performing well in Madrid doesn’t always guarantee the same success in Rome.”

Nonetheless, Thiem plans to retain finalists Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev in his lineup for Rome, as both players delivered strong performances in Madrid.

Another notable inclusion for Thiem is his past rival, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who performed impressively, reaching the Rome finals in 2022 and making it to the fourth round in Madrid.

“I’m definitely keeping Tsitsipas, as he appears to be regaining form,” Thiem added. “Currently, he offers great value for the budget. I’ll assess the rest of my team shortly, but I’m excited to possibly include a young talent like Jodar.”
