MADRID — Jannik Sinner, the world’s top seed, triumphed over Alexander Zverev in a stunning final at the Madrid Open, claiming the prestigious title for the first time and marking a remarkable feat as the first male player to secure five consecutive Masters 1000 victories.
Sinner dominated the third-seeded Zverev with a commanding score of 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday, stretching his winning streak to an impressive 23 matches. Earlier this year, he had already clinched Master 1000 titles in Monte Carlo, Miami, and Indian Wells, along with his victory in Paris last year.
Zverev had faced off against Sinner in the semifinals of all those tournaments, previously winning the Madrid Open in 2018 and 2021, while finishing as runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in 2022.
In the women’s final on Saturday, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk triumphed over Russia’s Mirra Andreeva with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
