On Day 2 of the Mutua Madrid Open, Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, last year’s finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Pablo Carreno Busta secured victories, while Gael Monfils bid an emotional farewell to the Spanish audience during his final match.

<p>Making headlines, Paraguayan qualifier Adolfo Daniel Vallejo celebrated a stunning victory in his ATP Masters 1000 debut, overpowering former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 6-4, 6-4. At just 21, Vallejo becomes the second Paraguayan to achieve a Masters 1000 win!</p>
<p>The 2019 finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas, faced a tough challenge in his opening match but managed to prevail against lucky loser Patrick Kypson, 3-6, 6-7(6), 7-6(4). This marks Tsitsipas’ first triumph on clay this season, setting him up for a clash with eighth seed Alexander Bublik.</p>
<p>Spanish crowd favorite Pablo Carreno Busta delighted fans by clinching his first win in Madrid in a decade, coming back to defeat Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2. He will next take on fellow countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.</p>
<p>In a poignant moment, Gael Monfils played his last match in Madrid, where he was bested by Camilo Ugo Carabelli with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Monfils’ notable achievements at this Masters 1000 event include quarter-final appearances in 2008 and 2010, while Carabelli celebrated his first win in the tournament.</p>
<p>On another exhilarating note, local hero Daniel Merida fought valiantly, saving two match points to edge past Marco Trungelliti 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(6). This comeback marked the Madrid native’s first victory at the Masters 1000 level.</p>
<p>In additional matches, Alexander Blockx claimed his inaugural win in Madrid, battling past Cristian Garin with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, and will now face Brandon Nakashima in the next round.</p>
<p>Yannick Hanfmann also registered his first-round win, defeating Marcos Giron, and showcased his skills with a dazzling angled shot early in the match, fueling his quest for his 100th tour-level victory.</p>
