On a memorable Monday evening in Madrid, the world’s elite athletes came together for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards, with Carlos Alcaraz leading the ATP Tour stars gracing the event.
This year marked a significant milestone for Alcaraz as he was honored with the title of World Sportsman of the Year, presented by football legends Luis Figo and Iker Casillas.

Novak Djokovic, a five-time World Sportsman of the Year, co-hosted the event with skiing sensation Eileen Gu. Part of Djokovic’s role was to honor football icon Toni Kroos for his Sporting Inspiration Award.

Jannik Sinner, the top seed at this week’s Mutua Madrid Open, was nominated alongside Alcaraz for the World Sportsman of the Year award, competing against other luminaries including football star Ousmane Dembele, pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis, renowned motorcyclist Marc Marquez, and cyclist Tadej Pogacar.

Joao Fonseca also made waves by receiving a nomination for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award, which was ultimately won by Formula One champion Lando Norris. Fonseca’s journey saw him rise from No. 145 in the PIF ATP Rankings to as high as World No. 24 during the 2025 season.
“It’s truly an honor to have been part of such an incredible night and among the nominees @laureussport 🙏🏻,” Fonseca shared on Instagram.

Italian rising star Lorenzo Musetti was also present, aiming to capture his first ATP Masters 1000 title as the sixth seed in Madrid.

In a remarkable achievement, WTA World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka claimed the title of Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year.
