Fils faced a rocky start in his opening match against compatriot Terence Atmane, saving two match points to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(7)—a nerve-wracking encounter marking his first match on European clay this season.
With a commanding performance, the former World No. 14 quickly advanced past Brandon Nakashima, winning 6-2, 6-3 to secure his spot in the quarter-finals of the prestigious ATP 500 clay-court event.
In a gripping quarter-final match against second seed Lorenzo Musetti, Fils showcased his skills, defeating the Italian 6-3, 6-4, earning his second Top 10 victory of the year.
The semi-finals presented a formidable challenge as he faced Spain’s Rafael Jodar, who was riding an impressive eight-match winning streak. Despite dropping the first set, Fils rallied brilliantly to clinch a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory, marking his debut in a Barcelona final.
In the championship match, Fils battled against Andrey Rublev, who had also made a comeback from one set down to reach this point. Despite a shaky start, Fils regained his footing and leveled the match at 2-2. He then broke Rublev’s serve, taking a 4-2 lead in the first set.
Fils wrapped up the first set 6-2. Although Rublev fought hard in the second set, earning several break points, Fils displayed his powerful game, saving crucial points and maintaining his serve.
With a deft drop shot, Fils broke Rublev to take a 4-2 lead and held his nerve, moving to a 5-2 lead. Despite Rublev’s valiant effort to save three championship points, Fils stood firm, ultimately winning 6-2, 7-6(2) in just 100 minutes, marking his first title since returning from injury.
With this victory, Fils became the fourth player in 2026 to save match points on his way to a title, joining the ranks of Ben Shelton (Dallas), Mariano Navone (Bucharest), and Tommy Paul (Houston).
