Shelton faced a tough challenge from fellow American Emilio Nava in his first-round match, ultimately winning 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3 in his initial encounter on European clay this season.
With momentum on his side, the 23-year-old progressed through a challenging second-round matchup with Alexander Blockx, who had competed at the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2025. Shelton saved two set points in a closely contested second set to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, finishing with a score of 6-4, 7-6(8).
Friday’s quarter-final pitted Shelton against Brazilian Joao Fonseca, marking their first encounter. Fonseca, who clinched a clay title in Buenos Aires in 2025, pushed Shelton but fell short. In a thrilling one-hour, 50-minute duel, Shelton emerged with a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
Advancing to his second semi-final of the season following his win in Dallas, Shelton dominated Slovakian qualifier Alex Molcan to reach the Munich final again. After previously falling to Alexander Zverev in the 2025 championship match, Shelton breezed through Molcan with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4.
The final was a showcase of Shelton’s talent, highlighted by two breathtaking moments at 5-1 in the first set. First, he soared into the air to crush an overhead volley, followed by an outrageous forehand winner from the boards, keeping Cobolli on his toes.
Shelton clinched the first set and ultimately won the match 6-2, 7-5, securing his fifth tour-level title and second on clay, previously winning in Houston in 2025. After his stellar performance in Germany, Shelton ascended three spots to fifth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, boasting a season record of 17-5 according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
