Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev have redefined the meaning of consistency on the ATP 500 circuit, etching their names in history as they surpass some of the sport’s greatest icons.

Rublev triumphed over Lorenzo Sonego at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, while Zverev advanced past Gabriel Diallo at the BMW Open by Bitpanda in Munich. With these wins, both players reached their 33rd ATP 500 quarter-final, surpassing Marin Cilic for the record number of quarter-final appearances since the series inception in 2009.

In addition to breaking Cilic’s record, they have distanced themselves from notable competitors, including the illustrious Rafael Nadal and former World No. 3 players David Ferrer and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

This year alone, Rublev has made it to three quarter-finals, including two semi-final runs in Doha and Dubai, before his latest achievement in Barcelona. Meanwhile, Zverev is entering his first ATP 500 quarter-final of the season, but carries significant momentum after a strong showing at ATP Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo, where he faced Jannik Sinner each time.

As the No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Zverev aims to defend his title in Munich — a place where he seeks his fourth championship.

Zverev will clash with Francisco Cerundolo in the quarter-finals. Though Cerundolo has claimed victory in all their previous clay-court encounters, Zverev boasts a slight advantage with a 4-3 lead in their overall Lexus ATP Head2Head matchup.

Rublev, having also reached the Barcelona quarter-finals back in 2021, is set to face Tomas Machac. Following Carlos Alcaraz’s injury withdrawal on Wednesday, Rublev now stands as the sole seeded player left in the top half of the tournament draw.
