In an impressive display, Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo dominated the court, securing a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ukrainian qualifier Vitaliy Sachko in the opening round of the BMW Open tennis tournament on Monday.
The Canadian sensation broke Sachko’s serve twice early in the second set, racing ahead to a commanding 4-0 lead before solidifying his service games to clinch the match.
Notably, Diallo showcased his defensive prowess, successfully defending against all five break point opportunities that Sachko presented throughout the match.
Next up for Diallo is a challenge against the victor of the clash between top seed Alexander Zverev from Germany and Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic at the ATP 500 clay-court event.
Currently holding the No. 37 spot in the ATP rankings, Diallo has now improved his season record to 6-10.
