Rafael Jodar celebrated a remarkable milestone on Sunday afternoon in Marrakech, capturing his first ATP Tour trophy and furthering his meteoric ascent in the sport.

The dynamic 19-year-old from Spain, who was ranked outside the Top 900 just a year ago, overwhelmed Marco Trungelliti with a decisive score of 6-3, 6-2 to secure the Grand Prix Hassan II title. Throughout the match, Jodar’s explosive forehand proved pivotal, overpowering the 36-year-old veteran, all within just 69 minutes.

Despite Trungelliti’s commendable journey to the final at this clay ATP 250 event—where he will make history as the oldest Top 100 debutant in the PIF ATP Rankings since 1973—he struggled to find a solution against Jodar’s unyielding baseline strikes. The Spaniard unleashed 16 winners compared to Trungelliti’s three and boasted an impressive 86 percent success rate (18/21) on points served, as noted by Infosys ATP Stats.

“It’s truly surreal. I’m at a loss for words to express how I feel at this moment,” said Jodar. “Winning this title in Marrakech means the world to me. It’s my first time here, and I fell in love with the atmosphere and the amazing support from the crowd.”

Having turned pro only in December after two seasons competing in college tennis at the University of Virginia, Jodar becomes the second player born in 2006 or later to win an ATP Tour title, following in the footsteps of two-time champion Joao Fonseca. He joins an elite group of just six Spanish men in the Open Era to secure a title before turning 20, alongside legends like Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Tommy Robredo.
