Excitement is in the air as the 2026 ATP Fantasy season approaches, and Dominic Thiem is stepping in to provide fans with a glimpse of what it takes to thrive in this competitive environment.
Kicking off this weekend with the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, ATP Fantasy presents a novel engagement opportunity for fans. Participants will don the cap of a team manager, assembling a lineup of ATP stars each week and earning points based on their actual performances.
Thiem, who once held the No. 3 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings and triumphed at the 2020 US Open, has begun refining his fantasy lineup. He’ll be sharing his expert tips throughout the season, giving fans an invaluable insider’s perspective on how to strategize week by week. Think of him as your personal assistant manager.
“I’m thrilled about ATP Fantasy because it’s a fantastic challenge to assemble a team and devise a strategy,” Thiem shared. “Currently, I have Alcaraz, Zverev, Darderi, Draper, and as my alternates, Francisco Cerundolo and Etcheverry. I’m waiting on results from Marrakech, Houston, and Bucharest to finalize my roster, as there are some intriguing players competing there.”
As Thiem points out, achieving success in ATP Fantasy hinges on clever team assembly. Managers must balance top-tier stars with budget-friendly choices while remaining within their credit limits and adjusting selections weekly. Choosing a Bonus Ball player is crucial, as this choice earns double points.
The scoring system rewards more than just match wins; it also values specific attributes. Powerful servers can accumulate points through aces, while dominant displays—such as straight-set victories—offer extra bonuses. This makes it essential to analyze player trends, recent forms, and surface compatibility. With that in mind, Thiem shared more about his strategy.
“You have to consider either Alcaraz or Sinner, as they both have an excellent chance of clinching the tournament,” Thiem remarked about the top two players in the PIF ATP Rankings. “Additionally, reviewing historical performances at this tournament is important to see who excels on clay.”
“Initially, I had Davidovich Fokina in my lineup because, at just eight coins, he’s a bargain and has reached the Monte-Carlo finals before. I was eager to select him, but of course, he withdrew from the tournament. I chose Zverev, for instance, because he reliably hits aces, which are worth two points each.”
As the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the season kicks off this Sunday in Monte-Carlo, ATP Fantasy is set to create even more excitement. With Thiem’s strategies in mind, fans now have a valuable framework to start building their dream teams.
