Stan Wawrinka is gearing up to join an elite lineup at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The clay-court ATP 500 event officially announced that the former No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings has accepted a wild card for the 2026 tournament, scheduled from April 13-19.

The 40-year-old, celebrated as a 16-time tour-level champion, is in his farewell ATP season and boasts a solid 12-6 record at the Barcelona tournament, per the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He made it to the semi-finals in back-to-back years, 2006 and 2008. Notably, Wawrinka made a remarkable return to the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 in 2025 after a lengthy 16-year hiatus.

In addition to the Barcelona event, Wawrinka has also been granted a wild card for the Gonet Geneva Open, taking place from May 17-23. The Swiss ace last lifted a trophy at this ATP 250 event in his home country back in 2017.

Wawrinka will line up against World No. 1 and local hero Carlos Alcaraz, a two-time champion, at the Barcelona Open. Other top-tier competitors will include Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, along with Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Jack Draper, and Arthur Fils.

The Swiss legend has already created numerous unforgettable moments since announcing his retirement plans for 2026. The three-time Grand Slam winner holds a 6-8 record in the current season, featuring a notable third-round appearance at the Australian Open in January. On February 16, Wawrinka made a triumphant return to the Top 100 for the first time since July 2024.
