In a thrilling matchup at the WTA 1000 tournament, Canada’s Victoria Mboko faced an exit at the hands of Czechia’s Karolina Muchova for the second time this season.
Muchova secured a hard-fought victory with a score of 7-5, 7-6 (5) during the quarterfinals at the Miami Open on Tuesday.
The seasoned Czech player made her move by breaking serve at a crucial moment, turning a 30-love deficit into a 6-5 lead in the first set.
She displayed her resilience by saving a set point in the subsequent set, ultimately clinching the tiebreak and converting match point while facing her opponent’s serve.
This marks Mboko’s third consecutive appearance in the quarterfinals of a 1000-level event, beginning with a loss to Muchova in the Qatar TotalEnergies Open final last month.
Earlier this month, she reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, where she was narrowly defeated by world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
The 19-year-old from Burlington, Ontario, who ranked ninth globally entering the Miami tournament, elevated her season record to 19-6 with her impressive performance in Miami.
