In a breathtaking display of skill, Arthur Fils defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in just 55 minutes at the Miami Open presented by Itau, triumphing with a score of 6-0, 6-1. This victory secures Fils a spot in the fourth round for the second consecutive year.
“That was one of my finest performances ever,” Fils reflected after the match. “I’ve had great matches before, but this level was extraordinary. I’m incredibly pleased with how I played.”
Despite Tsitsipas, the former World No. 3, entering the match with momentum after knocking out fifth seed Alex de Minaur, Fils swiftly took control. He displayed precise hitting, forcing Tsitsipas into 28 unforced errors. Fils dominated with an impressive 89% success rate (16/18) on first-serve points while also saving both break points he encountered, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
The 21-year-old Frenchman has showcased strong resilience since overcoming a back injury that cut short his 2025 season. He made a successful return to the Tour in Montpellier last month, followed by a finals appearance in Doha and reaching the quarter-finals at Indian Wells.
“I’m fully back,” Fils declared. “It’s as if I never left; it feels fantastic.”
With this win, Fils improved his record against Tsitsipas to 5-0 in their head-to-head encounters, marking him as the first French player since Gael Monfils in 2015-16 to reach the fourth round in Miami consecutively.
Fils’ next challenge comes against Valentin Vacherot, the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters champion, who advanced by defeating Matteo Berrettini 7-6(5), 6-4 in a hard-fought third-round match. This victory, which lasted one hour and 31 minutes, marked Vacherot’s 10th win at the tour level this season. Remarkably, he had previously recorded just one ATP Masters 1000 victory before his performance in Shanghai last year, showcasing a notable rise as he has now reached the Round of 16 in three of his last four Masters 1000 events.
