LONDON — In a pioneering move, Wimbledon will introduce video review technology for the inaugural time at this year’s prestigious tournament, as confirmed by the All England Club on Saturday.

This historic Grand Slam will feature the technology on Centre Court and the No. 1 Court—Wimbledon’s second-largest venue—as well as on four additional show courts.

Players will have the opportunity to challenge specific calls made by the chair umpire, including instances of double bounces.

Having made its Grand Slam debut at the 2023 U.S. Open, video review technology is also being utilized at the Australian Open.

Throughout the tournament starting June 29, video review will be consistently available on Centre Court and No. 1 Court, while it will also be in effect for singles matches on No. 2 Court, No. 3 Court, Court 12, and Court 18.

Interestingly, players will not face any restrictions on the number of reviews they can initiate.

It’s important to note that video review operates separately from the electronic line-calling system used to determine whether balls are in or out.

Last year, Wimbledon transitioned from line judges to electronic line-calling, although the switch encountered some challenges.

Additionally, the grass-court major will introduce visual indicators on scoreboards for electronic line-calling, which will display ‘out’ and ‘fault’ calls.

“This enhancement has been implemented following feedback related to the introduction of live electronic line-calling last year,” noted the All England Club in their announcement on Saturday.
