It was an electrifying day for Italian sports, not just because Jannik Sinner clinched the trophy at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Meanwhile, over 6,500 miles away in Shanghai, his fellow Italian, Kimi Antonelli, made history by becoming the second-youngest race winner in Formula 1.

During the awards ceremony following his victory over Daniil Medvedev, Sinner showcased his passion for multiple sports.

“Today has been a remarkable moment for Italy. As a huge Formula 1 enthusiast, it’s incredible to see someone as young as Kimi bringing our nation back to the forefront. A huge thanks to Kimi and the F1 community,” he expressed, later sharing with Tennis Channel that he had caught the highlights of Antonelli’s groundbreaking win.

Sinner, who became only the third player to secure victories at all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on Sunday, previously spent time with Antonelli during the Nitto ATP Finals last year, where the F1 star came to support the No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings.

As he leaves California, Sinner boasts an impressive 13-2 record this season, as highlighted by the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. The 24-year-old currently sits second in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.
