In a thrilling quarterfinal at the BNP Paribas Open, Canada’s Victoria Mboko faced a tough challenge, ultimately falling to world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 7-6 (0), 6-4.

Savalenka clinched the match with a crucial break in the second set and skillfully defended all five break points she encountered.

This marked their second encounter this season, with Mboko, a promising talent from Burlington, Ontario, seeded 10th at the prestigious WTA 1000 event.

Previously, the Belarusian ace had defeated Mboko in straight sets during the fourth round at the Australian Open.

At just 19, Mboko notched her second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at a WTA 1000 event, following a remarkable run to the finals in Doha, Qatar, last month.

With a stellar record of 16-5 this season, she continues to impress on the court.
