Cobolli celebrated his stunning victory by tearing his shirt in sheer exhilaration after an intense deciding-set tiebreak that featured all seven match-point saves, effectively avenging his only prior Davis Cup loss to Bergs from the previous year’s round-robin phase.
Berrettini’s earlier success against Collignon marked his seventh straight singles win in this tournament, further solidifying his crucial role in Italy’s championship run last year. With this latest victory, Italy has become the first nation to reach three back-to-back finals since Australia in 2001.
Now, Italy awaits to see who they will face in the finals, with Spain and Germany set to clash in Saturday’s semi-final. Both teams have reached this stage through crucial doubles victories. Italy, on a 13-tie winning streak, aspires to claim the title of the first nation to win three consecutive Davis Cups since the USA achieved the feat in 1971.
