In a nail-biting quarter-final clash held in Bologna, Spain’s seasoned squad showcased remarkable resilience to defeat the promising talents of Czechia.

With Jakub Mensik and Jaume Munar each claiming singles victories for their nations, the tie remained finely poised at 1-1. Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez triumphed over Tomas Machac and Mensik with a thrilling score of 7-6(8), 7-6(8) in the tense doubles matchup, ensuring Spain’s progression.

The 39-year-old Granollers, once the No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings, alongside the 28-year-old Martinez, displayed immense grit by saving three set points in the first-set tie-break and two in the second. The decisive moment arrived when #NextGenATP talent Mensik succumbed to a double fault under intense pressure at 8/9 in the second-set tie-break, paving the way for Spain’s advancement to the semi-finals against either the second-seeded Germany or Argentina this Saturday.

The evening began with a dynamic performance from 20-year-old Mensik, who outplayed Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-4 in the opening singles match. However, Jaume Munar countered impressively, defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-4 to level the tie. As a six-time Davis Cup champion, Spain reaches the semi-finals for the first time since adding to their trophy cabinet in 2019.
