Canada’s Rebecca Marino has secured her spot in the US Open main draw, triumphing over Czechia’s Dominika Salkova with a scoreline of 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the decisive third round of qualifying on Friday.

Demonstrating her skill, Marino converted four out of five breakpoint opportunities while successfully defending against seven of eleven, wrapping up the match in just two hours and 13 minutes.

The 34-year-old from Vancouver is set to join fellow Canadians, the promising Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez, in the women’s singles competition.

Mboko, who celebrates her 19th birthday this Tuesday, enters the tournament as Canada’s highest-ranked player, holding the 22nd seed after her victory at the National Bank Open in Montreal earlier this month.

The talented teenager from Toronto, raised in Burlington, Ontario, faces a formidable challenge against two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova in her opening match on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the 31st-seeded Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, will begin her journey against a qualifier in the season’s final Grand Slam.

In the men’s division, the 25th seed, Félix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, is also set to duel with a qualifier.

Denis Shapovalov, the 27th seed hailing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, will face Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, while 31st seed Gabriel Diallo of Montreal goes head-to-head with Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
