NEW YORK — Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from the U.S. Open mixed doubles event, making the announcement just moments before the competition kicked off on Tuesday. This decision follows his abrupt exit during the first set of the Cincinnati Open final due to health complications.

The top-ranked Sinner, who is the reigning singles champion at Flushing Meadows, was set to team up with Katerina Siniakova for the mixed doubles tournament.

The U.S. Tennis Association revealed Sinner’s withdrawal less than an hour prior to the opening matches of the highly-anticipated mixed doubles event. In response, the USTA will substitute an alternate pair with the highest combined singles ranking into the 16-team lineup.
