Chinese tennis sensation Zheng Qinwen, currently ranked sixth, has successfully undergone arthroscopic surgery on her right elbow following “ongoing discomfort” that lasted for several months.
The 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist, who faced an early exit in the first round at Wimbledon against Katerina Siniakova, announced on Saturday that the surgery was a success story.
“For several months, I experienced constant pain in my right elbow while training and competing. Despite exploring various treatment options, the pain persisted,” the right-handed star shared in an Instagram update.
“After meeting with elbow specialists and having in-depth discussions with my team, we concluded that arthroscopic surgery was the most effective path to fully address the issue. I am relieved to say the procedure went well, and I am grateful to have it behind me.”
Zheng added that she will be focusing on her recovery over the “coming weeks and months.”
