PARIS — The sensational Jannik Sinner continued to impress at the French Open with a commanding victory, defeating 17th-ranked Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 on Monday night. This win propels him into the quarterfinals and marks his remarkable 18-match Grand Slam winning streak.
A three-time major champion, Sinner claimed the U.S. Open title last September and triumphed at the Australian Open this January. He now aims for a spot in the semifinals at Roland-Garros for the second year in a row, facing 62nd-ranked Alexander Bublik on Wednesday.
To highlight Sinner’s prowess in Paris over the past week, he has yet to lose a single set and has only conceded a total of 30 games.
Sinner’s match against Rublev didn’t start off smoothly, enduring a slight struggle at the outset under the lights of Court Philippe-Chatrier. For a brief moment, Rublev had two break points at 15-40 in the opening game, but Sinner quickly neutralized those threats and found his rhythm.
Remarkably, Sinner faced just one more break point throughout the entire match, which he also successfully saved.
He concluded the first set with an impressive tally of 10 winners against only three unforced errors, maintaining relentless pressure on Rublev.
