Camila Giorgi has returned to the tennis scene, but this time she’s armed with a microphone instead of a racquet.
The talented former player, who once held the world No. 26 ranking, has made her debut as a courtside reporter at the ongoing Argentina Open in Buenos Aires.
WTA Update: Stefano Vukov Remains Suspended
Now 33 years old, the Italian star has recently relocated to Argentina after spending time in South Florida. She has been actively conducting interviews with players for the tournament’s social media platforms.
Known for her succinct and sometimes cryptic responses during her playing days, Giorgi now seems to thrive in her role as an interviewer. She has been engaging with athletes through detailed questions and posting some highlights on her social media.
The 2021 Canadian Open champion officially retired from the WTA Tour last May following reports of tax evasion allegations involving her family in Italy. In her retirement announcement, Giorgi expressed gratitude for the support she received over the years, stating, “I cherish all the beautiful memories.” She also hinted at future opportunities that lay ahead, dispelling rumors about her plans.
During a candid interview on Italian TV program Verissimo, she discussed her abrupt retirement and clarified that her family was unaware of their tax issues, attributing the chaos to previous management.
“I’m sorry that the blame fell on my father. It’s disappointing, but sometimes, circumstances force you to adjust,” she explained. The four-time WTA titleholder dismissed bizarre claims that her family was failing to pay rent or had stolen furniture, calling them “ludicrous.”
Passionate about venturing into an acting career, Giorgi isn’t alone in her shift to media; she’s joined by fellow former WTA star Garbine Muguruza, who recently signed on as a commentator and ambassador for Tennis Channel Spain.
This week marks a new chapter as two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza joins the Tennis Channel Spain as a commentator and ambassador, enhancing her connection with the sport post-retirement.
