Join the ever-growing fan club for Carlos Alcaraz as he praises Joao Fonseca.
After a commanding victory over Yoshihito Nishioka in Melbourne (6-0, 6-1, 6-4), the third-seeded Spaniard shared his thoughts on the exciting 18-year-old talent from Brazil.
Though Alcaraz didn’t watch every moment of Fonseca’s stunning 7-6(1) 6-3 7-6(5) triumph over the ninth-seeded Andrey Rublev, he certainly caught enough of the match to be thoroughly impressed.
“I caught a glimpse of the beginning and the conclusion of his match,” Alcaraz expressed to reporters. “What can I say? It was nothing short of incredible. The manner in which he performed in his debut Grand Slam match against a Top-10 player is simply unbelievable. His composure, the way he managed the nerves, and the match itself was fantastic.”

Alcaraz believes Fonseca has skyrocketing potential to ascend through the rankings, especially given that this is his inaugural Grand Slam main draw appearance.
“He’s someone I need to keep an eye on,” Alcaraz noted. “This is just the start of the year, just one victory in a Grand Slam, but he’s on his way.”
“Soon enough, we’ll be seeing Joao Fonseca’s name amongst the elite players in the world.”
