SYDNEY — In an electrifying start at the United Cup mixed teams tennis tournament, Coco Gauff triumphed over second-ranked Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-4, 6-4, propelling the United States to a resounding 2-0 victory against Poland in the finals on Sunday.

Taylor Fritz also showcased his skills, edging past Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4) at the Ken Rosewall Arena, as the American team celebrated their second United Cup championship in just three years.

“Winning a team event like this means the world to me; it’s the only team title I’ve secured, so I’m absolutely thrilled,” expressed the third-ranked Gauff, her enthusiasm palpable.

The 20-year-old star went undefeated in her five singles matches throughout the United Cup, each win coming in straight sets—a perfect lead-up to the highly anticipated Australian Open set to commence on January 12.

Furthermore, Gauff’s victory marks her second consecutive win over Swiatek, having previously defeated the Polish star en route to her triumphs at the WTA Finals in Riyadh last November.

“I truly believe I’m among the elite players globally, and when I bring my A-game, it’s tough for anyone to take me down,” Gauff proudly declared following her latest success.

This marks the second consecutive year that Poland finished as the runner-up, having lost to Germany in the previous edition as well.
