LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) ? Fresh from a conference tournament title and NCAA first-round win, UNLV women’s tennis head coach Kevin Cory has been named the Mountain Region Head Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Wednesday.

Cory, who is in his 14th year at the school, earned his third such honor after also winning it 2002 and 2011. He is also a two-time MW Coach of the Year honoree (2000 and 2002).

A native of California and former player at the University of Oregon, Cory is the winningest coach in Mountain West history with a record of 79-19 in the regular season and 26-10 in the postseason tournament. That last record includes a 3-0 mark at last month’s MW Tournament held in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he brought back his seventh career conference trophy (four tournament and three regular season).
After upsetting top-seeded San Diego State in the MW final, UNLV advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time ever with an upset of No. 27 Tulsa last weekend that got the squad to the 20-win mark (20-8) for the fourth time in the last five years.

The Lady Rebels also produced the MW Player of the Year in the form of Aleksandra Josifoska and will be sending two players to next week’s NCAA Singles Tournament for the first time in program history (Josifoska and Lucia Batta).

Cory will now be considered for the national ITA award along with the winners from the other seven regions.
