Americans Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan made history on Sunday at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles as they won a record-breaking 62nd tour-level doubles title together with a hard-fought 6-7(6), 6-2, 10-7 victory over Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer in the final of the ATP World Tour 250 hard-court tennis tournament.

The 32-year-old twins, who were appearing in their 100th tour-level team final (62-38 record), broke the record they had previously held jointly with recent Hall-of-Fame inductees Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde. They tied the record in May with victory at the Madrid (d. Nestor-Zimonjic), one of six tour-level titles they have won this season.

Victory marked the brothers' sixth title in Los Angeles, adding to their triumphs in 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009.

In the match tie-break the Bryans raced to a 5-0 lead only to see Butorac and Rojer claw back to 7-all. But the twins held firm under pressure, winning the final three points of the match to claim their sixth title of the year.

Mike Bryan said: "It's sweet, feels awesome, hanging out with family and friends after the match. It's a cool feeling."

Bob Bryan added: "Sixty two brings a smile to our face. It's been an emotional ride, talking about it every day for the past couple of months. To finally do it is incredible. There were definitely nerves out there and those guys were playing great. It was a very hard fought match. Our legs felt like jelly, arms spaghetti : It was a flood of emotion. I never thought we'd be this consistent, this healthy our whole career. Sixty one looked like it was on the other side of the moon. If you stay consistent, and never give up on each other - even in dry spells - anything can happen. We've never given up on each other."

Woodforde was in Los Angeles to commemorate the historic achievement, and paid tribute to the Bryans on court after the final. "For many, many years you've been traveling in elite company. Thanks to the victory today you're in rarefied air," Woodforde said. "You guys stand together as one. I know this 62nd victory has been waiting since May. Our run sort of ended because I elected to retire, but I know you two will continue for years to come. The floodgates will open entirely, so I know 70, 80 will come."

Fellow players pay tribute to the Bryan brothers after their record-breaking 62nd team title at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles:

Daniel Nestor: "They are the face of doubles. They've pretty much been the No. 1 team for 10 years. When people think of doubles they think of the Bryans. They are fun to watch. I don't think any team in history has been as consistent as they have been. They rarely have bad losses and they've won a lot. 62 titles is an amazing achievement and they've got a lot of time to go. They could reach 80 or 90 titles easily."

Nenad Zimonjic: "It's an incredible record and today it's more and more difficult to keep winning that many tournaments. I wish them good luck to win more and more tournaments to run up the record even more. They are the players I have played the most; it's a great rivalry and we always have tough matches. I look forward to playing them again and I am happy that they are one of the best teams ever and that I have been fortunate to play at the same time as them. They are great champions."

Mark Knowles: "Congratulations to them. It's quite a feat and they've got a lot of time left. It reflects how successful they've been. More important than the record is how much they have done for the game of doubles. They are both great ambassadors on and off the court and it's fitting that they have broken the record. When I first saw them play I didn't necessarily think that they would go down as one of the greatest teams in history but that's a testament to how hard they've worked and how much they have improved their games and physicality; they have both gotten a lot bigger and stronger. They're very passionate about the game of doubles. When they first came on tour they set their goals on doubles and they have basically achieved everything and they have done it with a lot of class. That reflects well on the game of doubles."

James Blake: "Those guys are sure-fire Hall Of Famers. They have an excitement level on the court and the fans appreciate it. It's such a unique opportunity to see twins play that well with complementing styles of plays and abilities. They've beaten up on me a few times so I know how good they are. I dread playing them but I love watching them when they're on my Davis Cup team. They just punish people. It's a lot of fun to watch from the sidelines."
Andy Murray: "What they've achieved in doubles has been incredible. It's amazing ... They're really, really good for tennis."

Simon Aspelin: "It's an unbelievable effort, especially given that they most likely have a lot of years left to go in their careers. It looks like they will crush this record by a lot of tournaments. I remember when they were young and starting out and they were working out at the courts of Pepperdine University when I was there playing. You could already see then that they were going to be very, very tough. They were already working hard and they had a lot of good skills."

Paul Hanley: "They've done exceptionally well on and off the court. They have made doubles come alive and without them media-wise the perception of doubles wouldn't be as high as it is. They are very marketable. To break the record is a fabulous thing, especially to do it with your twin brother. They are so professional; they've worked really hard and they deserve everything that comes their way."
