Red Rock Country Club's $50,000 USTA Women's Pro Circuit Tournament Concludes Sunday

Las Vegas, October 3, 2009 - Aniko Kapros and Regina Kulikova reached the finals of the USTA Lexus of Las Vegas Open at Red Rock Country Club with victories Saturday.

Kapros, ranked No. 216 in the world, defeated former Australian Open doubles champion Mirjana Lucic, of Croatia, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a semifinal match. Kapros, of Hungary, battled shin splints throughout the day, but prevailed in a hard-fought match that lasted 2 hours, 22 minutes.

No. 3 seed Kulikova, of Russia, had an easier time reaching the finals despite tightness in her lower back, beating American Shenay Perry, the No. 2 seed, 6-4, 6-3, in 1:17.

Kulikova, 20, is ranked No. 159 in the world and has won eight singles titles on the ITF Circuit. She has never faced Kapros, 25, who has won two ITF singles titles in her career.

Kapros gained her biggest victory at the 2002 French Open, where, as a qualifier, she beat fifth-seeded Justine Henin 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. Kapros reached the final of the 2003 Japan Open, where she lost to Maria Sharapova, 6-2, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7).

Kapros, who won junior singles and doubles titles at the 2000 Australian Open, also will be playing in Sunday's doubles final. She teamed with Argentina's Agustina Lepore on Saturday for a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal victory over Americans Asia Muhammad and Coco Vandeweghe.

Kapros and Lepore will play Americans Kimberly Couts and Lindsay Lee-Waters for the championship. Lee-Waters and Couts reached the finals Friday with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 victory over Ana Jovanovic, of Serbia, and Anna Tatishvili, of Georgia.

Sunday's singles final is set to begin at 11 a.m., with the doubles final scheduled to start 30 minutes after the completion of the singles match.

Admission for Sunday's matches starts at $20. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or by going to http://www.lvwomensprocircuit.com.

Tournament sponsors and partners include USTA-Nevada, Hand Surgery Specialists of Nevada, Wynn Las Vegas, Court Think, ZizZazz Explosive Energy Mix, Dartfish and Marquis & Aurbach.
