Nestled off of Sahara is one of the most charming tennis clubs in Las Vegas, Spanish Oaks Tennis Club. Built in the 1970's, this small 6 court tennis facility has a lot of history. A diamond in the rough, the courts are off this great sloping hill where players have been known to sit back, have lunch and watch tennis for hours. Much like the traditional tennis club where playing and watching tennis becomes a whole day affair the tiny club is protected by some of the largest and most beautiful tress in the city, providing relaxing shade to on lookers.

Brought in to revive the clubs glory days is another Las Vegas staple, Sam Aparicio. Sam, who also resides in the Spanish Oaks community, has been a teaching and touring professional coach for as many years as most Las Vegans can remember.

Sam Aparicio is originally from San Antonio, Texas. He grew up playing tennis and was a competitive junior. He later moved to so cal where he met Pancho Gonzales and began playing and teaching at his ranch. Sam then joined Pancho in the late 70s at Ceasers Palace to run the tennis and swim club. He was there during the Allan King Tournament at Ceasars. He has played and worked with world class tennis players. Vincent Spadea and Michael Joyce (Sharapovas Coach)to name a few. He has worked with a dozen guys at least in the top 300. Sam has also coached many junior players through the years, enjoying a long standing relationship with the Parker family among many others. One of his former students Adrin Himmelheber has now come full circle and is now his partner as head pro at Spanish Oaks.

"Sam has been a mentor to me my whole life and I could not think of a better guy to work for," explained Himmelheber
According to Adrin Sam is traveling part time on the ATP tour coaching and teaching out of Spanish Oaks. He also runs the tennis program at Adelson Prep. For more information about Spanish Oaks Tennis programs call 702-876-5836.
