The 2008 USTA/Nevada Adult League District Championship, presented by Chrysler, was held at the Darling Tennis Center, June 17-22. The Championship had a record breaking 475 participants. Tournament Director Mary Maragos stated "This is the largest USTA Adult District Championship in the history of the USTA/Nevada." With 475 participants, every level of play was represented. "It was so exciting to have the Darling Tennis Center filled to capacity with players as well as spectators. This is a true reflection of the phenomenal growth of league tennis in the valley." |
Friday night the players and spectators were treated to a player’s party with food catered by Hollis and Betty Hale, owners of several local Port of Subs. A fashion show and viewing of the fall line of tennis wear by local business, Ritual, whose tennis apparel will be available fall of 2008, was also part of the festivities. "What I enjoyed seeing were the crowds of league players watching each others matches," explained USTA-Nevada Executive Director, Ryan Wolfington. "Then you see long-time captains, like Fred Aguilar and many like him, who devote so much time and patience in making league possible. It is a great community building event." The following teams which were awarded the first place in their respective divisions will compete in the USTA Sectional Championships, presented by Chrysler, in Salt lake City, Utah, August 22-24. |
