Started in 1985, the WTT Recreational League program features year-round leagues that have provided playing opportunities for more than 490,000 tennis players of all ages and abilities across the United States WTT Recreational Leagues run year-round at public parks, tennis clubs, schools, college campuses, military bases, corporations, camps, residential communities and tennis facilities in more than 1,000 U.S. cities. The National Qualifiers are offered for the winners of these local recreational leagues. The National Tournament is for the the winners of the National Qualifiers |
WTT offers 6 National Qualifiers and 1 Nationals. The dates and locations change each year, but the 2008 schedule includes: Bradenton, FL February 22-24,Las Vegas, NV April 18-20,Kansas City, MO July 18-20,Raleigh, NC August 22-24,Wilmington, DE September 19-21,Irvine, CA September 26-28,Indian Wells, CA October 31 November 2 (NATIONALS). The National Qualifier is played once a year in Las Vegas. Usually in mid-April |
64 teams (about 450 players) come from all over the United States including Puerto Rico and Hawaii. This year teams came from the following states: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Texas, Utah |
Players must be 18 years old or older. WTT offers the following levels: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, Senior 3.5, Senior 4.0 and Open. Players in the Senior levels must be 50 years or older. They can also be 49 if they are turning 50 in same calendar year as the National Qualifier they are playing in |
Each team match includes singles, doubles & mixed doubles. Teams must have at least 2 men and 2 women, but can have up to 10 people. The following teams won their respective divisions: a. 3.0 Division Team Gonzalez from Puerto Rico b. 3.5 Division Red Hot Lobos from New Mexico c. 4.0 Division Lubbock Line Steppers from Texas d. 4.5 Division Carmel Valley Tennis from California e. Senior 3.5 Division Vegas Idols I from Las Vegas f. Senior 4.0 Division Primetime Kruzers from California g. Open Division Las Vegas Longshots from Las Vegas |
Each division winner will advances to the Nationals (October 31 November 2 in Indian Wells, CA) to compete against the 5 other National Qualifier winners for the National Champion title |
To participate in the tournament one must qualify in the local league. There is a local league at the Darling Tennis Center. Anyone who is interested in playing should contact Matt Boggess at the Darling Tennis Center for information on upcoming leagues |
The only exception is teams in the Senior divisions. Those teams do not have to qualify locally first. They can just form a team of the senior friends and enter directly into the tournament. The Senior teams would contact Jennifer Smith at 800-832-6836 or jsmith@wtt.com for additional information |
