Jimmy Lovett from Henderson, Nevada, was chosen by the USTA Junior competition committee as the 2007-08 United States Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the State of Nevada.

"It is very rare that you find a student who excels at the top of his field nationally in both academics and athletics," said USTA-Nevada Executive Director Ryan Wolfington. "I remember he was getting up at 5 am daily to train for two hours before school, then a few hours after school, then studied all night and did it all over again, playing tournaments on weekends. He is the perfect example of all around excellence and a great inspiration for all players."
Lovett was also selected as a 2008 National Merit Scholarship finalist, scoring almost perfect on the SAT. This means Jimmy is in the top one percent of the academic population. He scored the second highest PSAT score in the state of Nevada, which qualified him for the award. A senior at The Meadows School, Lovett has been offered countless full academic scholarships, but is holding out to see if he will get into his top choices of MIT, Harvard, or Georgetown University.
Jimmy Lovett's accomplishments include but are not limited to: National Honor Society 9, 10, 11, High Honor Roll 9, 10, 11,College Board AP Distinguished Scholar, National Latin Test Honors (Perfect Score), National Chemistry Olympiad, National Math Olympiad, Varsity Quiz 10, 11, 12 (Placed 2nd State of Nevada 2007) and Senior Editor, Meadows School Literary Magazine, Inaugural Year.
As a nationally ranked tennis player Jimmy played #1 Varsity Singles and was voted Most valuable player all four years boasting an overall Record 124 – 8, and a regular Season Senior Year 34 – 0, where he led the team as captain for the second year in a row. In USTA Rankings Jimmy was #1 in the State of Nevada, 16 in the 6 state Intermountain region, and #343 in the nation, and all this with very limited time for travel due to his large academic load, taking all honors courses over all four years at arguably one of the toughest schools in the country. During this time Lovett won over 9 State District Championships and maintained his position among the top in his class academically.
In addition to all this Jimmy can outplay most on the piano, in a game of chess, golf and even a little bit of wakeboarding. His parents, Dr. Jim and Theresa Lovett have long been significant supporters on Tennis in Las Vegas, even pioneering a new indoor tennis center, serving years on the USTA-Nevada board and sectional junior competition committee, and playing league tennis as adults. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
