REBEL WRONSKI EARNS FOURTH CAREER MWC HONOR LAS VEGAS -- UNLV junior Elliot Wronski has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career, the league announced. The native of Cheltenham, England, was a combined 4-0 at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions while helping UNLV to wins over Southern Miss and New Mexico State over the weekend. In singles play, Wronski rallied to beat USM's Andrew Poole, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 on Friday and then cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over NMSU's Gustave Diep on Saturday. In doubles action, Wronski paired with junior Wesley Burrows to defeat USM's Poole/Markus Wessinghage 8-1 and NMSU’s Diep/Jim Brouleau 8-2. |
Wronski is just the third men's player in history to earn at least four player-of-the-week honors, joining Henner Nehles (five in 2003-05) and Asaf Tishler (four in 1997-99). The Rebels (2-1) are back in action with a pair of home matches this weekend. Texas Tech, ranked 32nd, comes to town on Friday and No. 73 San Diego is at Fertitta on Sunday. Both matches start at 10 a.m. and admission in free of charge. UNLV's Elena Gantcheva was the MWC women’s honoree this week. |
